Obituary – Mrs. Nurit Pahl 23/03/2024 - Judges

The FIFe Board was informed that the International All Breed Judge, Mrs. Nurit Pahl (IL) passed away peacefully, at home, surrounded by her loved ones, on Thursday night the 21st of March 2024. Nurit had been bravely fighting cancer but ultimately lost this unfair battle. Already in the nineties, Nurit was active in the, then Israeli Member, AMIL in various Board positions and she was founder and president of the former Israeli FIFe Member Sabra Cat. Nurit bred Persians in the colours chinchilla, silver shaded, colourpoint and solid colours, mainly white under the cattery name “Sunny Sabra.” Nurit passed her judge´s exam in category I in 1999, in category II in 2000, in category III in 2003 and in category IV in 2005 and since that time, she judged all over the world as an International All Breed Judge. Nurit was a popular and colourful judge always elegantly dressed who greeted you with a big smile. We will all miss Nurit, and the Board of FIFe extends its sincere condolences to her husband, daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren and family and friends and the Romanian FIFe Member FAF-FR.

The 2024 edition of the FIFe World Show was organised by our Norwegian Member Norske Rasekattklubbers Riksforbund.
FIFe congratulate all the exhibitors and their cats, which will from now on carry the title World Winner 2024.

FIFe has always had good relations with all the major cat organisations of the world. Its official seat is in Luxembourg and its official languages are French, German and English. The Secretariat is administered by the FIFe General Secretary, who handles the daily affairs for all the members; these include the co-ordination of show dates, the processing of cattery names data and the administrative work of judges' examinations.

	An introduction of the FÊdÊration Internationale FÊline, a major international cat fanciers federation whose aim is to protect and preserve the various breeds of pedigree cats. Please visit the official FIFe Org. web-site www.fifeweb.org The FIFe can be considered as the United Nations of Cat Federations. In fact it is a federation of national members representing, at present, 40 countries with 42 full members, but whose numbers continue to grow. These member organisations have chosen to follow the same rules with regard to the breed standards, breeding and registration, cattery names, shows, judges and student judges. This common interest has, over the years, been consolidated to create the high standard and international reputation of the FIFe.
One lady’s dream becomes reality The idea of an international European cat federation was the dream of Madame Marguérite (Miggy) Ravel, a French cat lover, who first began working towards her goal in the early thirties. Finally, at a meeting in Paris in 1949 between the Royal Cat Society of Flanders, the French Cat Federation and the Italian Cat Society, her efforts bore fruit with the unofficial founding of the Fédération Internationale Féline d’Europe (FIFE). The first FIFe show was held in Paris in 1949 at which over 200 cats were present with the exhibitors coming from France, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands. By today’s standards, 200 cats would be considered a very small show—one of the FIFe World Shows had more than 1500 entries with exhibitors coming from all over the world.
The site of the 1st FIFe show in Paris, 1949	On 10th December, 1950, the new federation held its first General Assembly in Ghent, Belgium and, with the acceptance of its statutes and rules, was officially founded. To mark the occasion, Madame Ravel presented each delegate with a cat, sculptured in pink sandstone (a photo of it adorns these pages), which she had especially commissioned from a French artist, Jean Martel. The FIFE becomes the FIFe The federation grew considerably over the years. With the acceptance of the Brazilian Clube Brasileiro do Gato in 1972, the FIFE had expanded beyond Europe and thus had to change its name, which it did at the following year’s General Assembly, becoming the Fédération Internationale Féline (FIFe).
Each of the national members of FIFe retains its own identity, with the FIFe guaranteeing their complete uniformity with cat registrations, shows, judges and judge training. The accent within FIFe is on healthy and happy cats which is reflected in its rules with their emphasis on health and welfare. The organisation The Executive Board of the FIFe is the co-ordinating body on the international level. The board is made up of six people from the member countries who are elected by the members; they manage the organisation according to its statutes. There are five supporting Commissions whose responsibility is to implement the decisions of the General Assembly and the Board. These are: the Judges & Standard Commission; Breeding & Registration Commission; the Show Commission; the Health & Welfare Commission; and the Disciplinary Commission. COVID-19 decisions (last update: 01.10.2020) Due to the COVID-19 situation, the Board decided on several special measures and exceptions to the rules: ● For all European FIFe Member countries, the number of certificates needed to obtain the titles IC/IP, GIC/GIP resp. SC/SP is set to 5, 7 resp. 10. These certificates can be obtained in 1 country (for IC/IP) resp. 1 or 2 countries (for GIC/GIP and SC/SP). In each class, at least 1 certificate must be obtained at shows organised after 01.07.2020. This exception is valid until 31.05.2021 (→ Annex 2A and 3A) ● Show Rules Annex 4, for our Members in Asia and Latin America, already provides the possibility of obtaining all certificates in one country and remains unchanged. However, the expiration date for this exception was 31.12.2020, this date is extended with one year, until 31.12.2021 (→ Annex 4) ● For cats born on 16.05.2019 or thereafter, the number of Best in Show titles in classes 11 and/or 12 to qualify for the title Junior Winner is reduced from 5 to 3, since they did not have the full 6 months’ period to qualify for this title. This exception is valid until 31.05.2021 (→ Annex 5A) ● The incumbent Vice Treasurer, Vice Secretary and the three members of the Health & Welfare Commission to continue their positions for one year. At the General Assembly 2021, these two board and three commission positions would be up for election for two years ● For all Winner Shows already listed on the official show calendar and to be organised prior to 01.06.2021, no qualifications are needed for cats to participate ● Our Italian Member ANFI to organise the World Show in 2021 instead of in 2020 after agreement of future World Show organisers to move ahead on the list ● The Compulsory Student Judge Seminar on 27-28.06.2020 to be organised in a virtual meeting ● The expiration date set for Breed Group exams will be prolonged with one year, i.e. until 31.12.2022 ● The validity for theoretical judges exams will be extended with 1 year ● All judges will retain the seminar accreditation they had on 01.01.2020 and the 2017 General Assembly seminar accreditation will be valid until the 2021 General Assembly; all other seminar accreditations will be extended with 1 year too ● There will be no need to send the Judges Engagement form in 2020; all judges will retain the activity status they had on 01.01.2020 and no judge will move to the dormant judges list per 01.01.2021; of course, judges who were not active in 2019 but will be active in 2020 will be listed as active next year ● The General Assembly 2021 will not be held in the last week of May but in the first week of June ● No General Assembly will be held in 2020.
